![]() ![]() ![]() We ended up with the very last outside spot on the Mega-Dock (SE corner).which seemed to be fine at first. The staff worked quickly to rectify that, but upon arrival and approach to the proper berth, we were told it wasn't available and to stand-by. Using Dockwa was simple, efficient and had a very good response time from request to dock assignment upon notification from us on arrival time was for a monohull - not the first time using Dockwa where the information that we are requested to fill out (LOA, Beam, Power, etc. Downtown Charleston is about a 20 minute walk from the marina. There's a nice Publix a bike ride away, but it's not exactly convenient. Dryers are large industrial ones, so you can do a couple of loads of wash in one dryer. Laundry and shower facilities are small, but nice. There's only diesel at the dock, so this nearby station is important if you need gas. There's a great little general store nearby, along with a gas station, liquor store and wine store among other vendors. There is a lot of chop from the Ashley River traffic, though. I tied up our 44 foot sailing cat in a 60 foot space between another cat and a motor yacht on their "Mega Dock" - They pack 'em in tight! The Mega Dock was a convenient place to tie up for a couple of nights, especially since diesel was available right there where we tied up. This is a very busy marina, with traffic going in and out all the time. Trey, the Dockmaster, seemed great but I never actually met him in person, since reservations are easy (and COVID-19 safe) on Dockwa! This was an interesting stop for many reasons. We stayed here for a couple of nights on our way north along the US East Coast. The water pressure on the dock is terrible and it takes forever to wash down your boat. Lots of diesel fuel in the water from the fueling boats ![]() Very rolly and unprotected on the outside Also the dockmaster was miserable and didn’t communicate well.Ĭourtesy shuttle - although I don’t think any of the dock hands driving it have a CDL which is required by state law.Ĭonvenient Fueling - Several pumps on the mega dock I talked to a maintenance guy that had been there several years and he said this is the worst the marina has ever been managed and complained the general manager was always out sick and never wanted to come to work. They could use some training as 1/2 of them I saw try to the line opposite to the current first and also don’t seem to know what locking down a line is. All of them seemed miserable, but very polite. In fact the longest a dockhand has been here was 1 year per several that I talked to and most had been there less than 3 months. The dockmaster seems to have no actual boating experience and I’m pretty sure she has never actually docked a boat herself. Absolutely no protection in this marina on the outside and it isn’t a slow no wake zone. It’s a good thing they moved us inside as when we were leaving to go to the other marina, we saw a small derelict boat that had dragged anchor and floated into the two catamarans at the end right where we were. We had already reserved another marina and wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. The dock is so long they actually have advertisements near the gate like billboards.Īfter complaining several times about the outside dock for 2 days, they finally moved us inside. Where they put you is a 15 minute walk down the dock just to make it to the parking lot. These charter yachts don’t typically have the owners on them and the crew could care less where they put them as they use the marina dock hands to deliver all their groceries and ferry them down the dock. Instead they reserve that for charter yachts which during our stay were mostly transiting to the north east. They should put catamarans on the north side (closest to the bridge) or inside near the turning basin. This is the worst slip in the entire place and it is where they usually put the catamarans and per the dockmaster, they do that only because it is easier (whatever that means). They put us in the last slip (closest to the coast guard station) on the mega dock. A map of the routes is below.Įach route runs a shuttle approximately every 30 minutes. If you are a catamaran or any boat below 60 feet, they will put you on the outside (typically) and you will break the waves for all the other boat. And Route 213 takes care of Calhoun Street and Lockwood Drive (Marion Square, MUSC and Joe Riley Stadium). Route 211 handles Meeting and King Streets (the Charleston City Market, art gallery district, carriage tours, Waterfront Park, and shopping). Philip (The Visitor Center, the College of Charleston, and the South Carolina Aquarium). There are three routes for the DASH Trolley to shuttle guests across the peninsula. ![]()
